RESOURCES OF THE BELARUSIAN THEATER

Belarus does not have so many theaters. Minsk has almost two million inhabitants and about fifty regular functioning theater groups, and only ten of them have official status and their own stage.
If we talk about the crisis of the theater, it is primarily a crisis of infrastructure and administration that seriously affects the quality of the theater product.
The ideological problem of the Belarusian theaters of its current stage: the Soviet Union is no more, there is no explicit government order, there is no public consensus on the national idea.

Nikolai Pinigin, artistic director of the National Academic Theater of Janka Kupala (in the hierarchy the first drama theater of the country), perhaps one of the few cultural managers in the field of culture, who has the understanding of the overall strategy of the theater in sovereign Belarus. The key word for understanding Belarusian culture - Adradzenne (Renaissance).
The production of "The Seagull" by Anton Chekhov is strangely suchway that it departs from the Russian theatrical tradition of the Chekhov understanding. The psychological conflict between the characters of the game becomes a metaphor of the clash between people in general. Belarusian theatre consistently ignores world events such as 9/11 or the war in Iraq. Against this background, an attempt by Pinigin to talk about the end of the world is totally unexpected.

Belarusian Drama Theater "Mabyts?" ("Maybe?") - after each performance you make a discussion with the audience, and the play itself is a so-called "verbatim-documentary drama". In a society often speak on behalf of the average Belarusians, but no one had not seen him and talked to him. So you had to collect a number of the interviews with interesting Cahrakter from all over the country, and on the basis of this material to make a game.
Theatre suddenly becomes the parliament of culture. In turn, the professional world began to discuss a documentary theater, as a genre.
There are more documentary performances. From the stage people talk about the status of the Belarusian language, the Chernobyl disaster, about emigration, about the end of the socialist era.

The question of national identity for Belarus is very strongly connected with recognition abroad. About this is the most significant dramatic lyrics of the past year - the play "London" by Maxim Dosko.
This text about the installer, who is not well trained, who makes a trip to London, where he won the festival of arts and crafts.
And in December she premiered it in the Belarusian Free Theater (Belarus Free Theater - BFT) directed by Vladimir Shcherban, a play called "Earth №2" was staged (in addition, two texts by Dosko were added).
Free theater - is a confirmation of the thesis "where we are, there is the theater." I saw the premiere going to an office, but the theater had moved to another room in the spring.
In Russian, the word "democratic" also means "present" and this pun is very well suited to BFT. This theater group do theaters very "democratically".

In this article I tried to make an idea of Minsk theatrical life, from the latest premiere from different shifts.
Human resources is perhaps the only thing that Belarusian theater has in excess. And, perhaps, that it is, perhaps, the most interesting.
